Recorded in 1998, this was the first of the c.h.ogle albums.
Under Ice is a toy box of tracks - from the bubbling, synthy under ice, to the swirling sand storms of yemen. The album features scorching guitar and melancholy solo piano. Strains of "Weather Report" fuse with jungle loops, whilst acoustic guitar melds with grand piano.

Reviews
Jon Goddard's body of work in the area of UK stage, shows he has been under the radar with several outstanding independent releases waiting in the wings. Under Ice has a bit of electronic slant to it indicated by the album's title track. Goddard uses MIDI gear in synching up his keyboard rig, sampled horns and mock rhythm section. This allows freedom to focus on the shape of a tune as on Tilt, the disc¹s second piece. Desert Song reflects a build-up into a blistering electric guitar solo much like Gongzilla. Exhibits is the ten-minute centerpiece track with its tick-tock clock time keeping and agonized lead guitar lines, while Sentinel reveals a sensitive side to the composer. Clockworks could be an outtake from a classic Weather Report album circa Black Market with a spirited tempo offset by Zawinul like synth lines making it one of the best songs on the disc.
